Sgraffito Pottery
Katherine Hackl produces a wide selection of traditionally crafted functional pottery. Each piece is hand–thrown on her potter's wheel from a stoneware or porcelain clay. The Sgraffitto Pottery line is a selection of black and tan functional ware decorated with a continually changing array of elegant botanical motifs, geometric patterns and stories. The decorative work is accomplished by using the traditional sgraffitto technique, where a light clay body is layered with a black slip—a colored liquid clay. When the piece is half dry, "leather–hard," the images are sketched and carved onto each piece freehand. All of Katherine's pottery is finished with a transparent glaze and is dishwasher and microwave safe.
The Gallery below shows many examples of work produced in the Sgraffitto Pottery line, however is not a comprehensive display. The forms and the decoarative imagery are continually changing.
